How to Choose a Vet Who Really Cares About Your Pet

How do you know what to look for in a vet? If you are like most pet owners, you want the best for your pets and want to keep them healthy. Part of keeping them healthy is finding a vet that truly cares about them. How do you know what to look for?

1. A vet who is understanding and impartial – there is a lot of times when your pet may get sick or injured and you have to make a lot of difficult choices that can be costly on their behalf. You should make sure that your vet has the best interests of you and your pet in mind and that he is a pillar of support and strength. Make sure he is someone who can truly empathize with you and will not push you into making a decision that you are not comfortable with.

2. Find a vet who practices preventative medicine – only the best of vets encourage and practice preventative medicine that includes routine checkups, treatments and follow up appointments that can catch and fix a small problem before it gets out of control. This not only can help keep your pets healthy, but can also save you a lot of money down the road.

3. Find a vet that can put your pet at ease – really good vets have a certain personality that is comforting to your pet. They should be calm and soothing and have a very gentle personality. You can tell by the way they touch and talk to your pet. They should use a soft touch and soft voice that is comforting to you and your pet.

4. Find a vet office that is full of animal lovers – it is not just the vet that you should be concerned about, but also everyone else that is in the office. They all in one way or another could be working with your pet, so make sure that everyone in there is truly caring and will be loving and gentle towards your pets.

5. Find a vet that will listen- your vet should listen to your concerns and questions and be patient and understanding. They should have an open mind and you should feel comfortable approaching them with any questions that you may have.
